Takuya Sugimoto

Corporate Finance Expert, Engagement Strategy Principal

Takuya Sugimoto is a Principal at GBM Asset Management, responsible for corporate finance and engagement strategy, as well as investment origination across the firm’s event-driven strategies. He focuses on unlocking value through capital allocation optimization, governance improvements, and strategic transactions.

Prior to joining GBM, he was a Vice President at Citi Investment Banking, where he covered the Power & Utilities, Energy, and Metals & Mining sectors. He led and executed complex M&A and capital markets transactions totaling over $25 billion in aggregate deal value, advising leading Japanese corporates and global sponsors on cross-border acquisitions, divestitures, carve-outs, equity and debt financings, and special situations, including shareholder-sensitive and distressed situations.

He began his career at Nomura’s Investment Banking Division, providing M&A and strategic advisory services to TMT and industrial clients, with additional experience in special situations.

He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Tokyo and was a Visiting Research Fellow at Università di Roma, “La Sapienza.” He also studied at the University of California, Davis and the University of California, Santa Cruz.
