John Fou is the chief executive officer of GBM Asset Management. He has 35 years of experience in Asian financial markets.
Prior to GBM, he led multiple buy-side institutions. As chairman and CEO of Evolution Japan, he executed a tender offer to acquire 100% of the company and take it private. As CEO of Revolution Capital, he secured approval for a Japanese discretionary investment management (for QII) license and ran the Tokyo branch before stepping up to lead the listed parent and executing an MBO through tender offer. He also founded and served as CEO of Generation Group, a licensed investment advisory serving overseas funds. In addition, he served as CEO of eWarrant Securities, a Japanese Type I Financial Instruments Business Operator and Japanese licensed discretionary investment manager and executed the sale of the company to a listed company.
Earlier, he headed Japanese equity proprietary trading at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (now part of Commerzbank) and ran proprietary index-derivatives and equities strategies at UBS in Tokyo. Before that, he traded Japanese and Asian index derivatives, equities, convertible bonds, and warrants at CIBC and ING Barings in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
He sits on the boards of several private companies. He graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in economics.
