Role Overview
GBM Asset Management is seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager to lead a Japan long/short equities strategy. You will have autonomy over idea generation, research, and portfolio construction within a disciplined risk framework. The platform provides robust infrastructure, compliance, and capital support so you can focus exclusively on generating alpha.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute long/short equity strategies across Japanese markets, with focus on catalysts, governance reforms, and corporate actions .
- Conduct in-depth fundamental research, including valuation, earnings revisions, and policy/capital allocation analysis.
- Build and maintain a high-conviction portfolio within gross/net exposure limits and risk unit guardrails.
- Manage borrow, financing, and liquidity constraints in collaboration with trading and risk teams.
- Engage with management teams, analysts, and sell-side research for differentiated insights.
- Continuously monitor positions, catalysts, and risks; update theses based on new information.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 7+ years’ experience as an analyst or PM in Japanese equities.
- Demonstrated track record of generating alpha in long/short strategies.
- Deep knowledge of Japanese corporate governance, disclosure rules, and shareholder dynamics.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and catalyst-identification skills.
- Ability to operate within risk-neutral, factor-controlled portfolio construction.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Japanese strongly preferred.
